Angelo Herndon to Speak on Scottsboro Case Before NSL

Is Touring Country to Raise Funds to Appeal Case

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Speaking on his own case and that of the Scottsboro defendants, Angelo Herndon will address a meeting of the National Student League at 3 o'clock this afternoon in the Lowell House Common Room.

Herndon was convicted a few years ago for violating an obsolete statute of the post-Civil War period. His only crime was the possession of literature advocating the acquittal of the Scottsboro prisoners. He is now touring the country in an effort to raise funds for the appeal of his case before the Supreme Court. Fifteen thousand dollars bail has been provided for him by the International Labor Defense, pending his trial.

At the same time, Charles L. Whipple '35, executive secretary of the Harvard chapter, will discuss the general aims of the NSL with special reference to their recent protest at the appointment of Carrado Gint, as lecturer on Sociology.
