DR. ROBINSON RESIGNS AS HERBARIUM LEADER

Botanical Center Increases Three Times Since 1892 to Become Most Important In World

Dr. Benjamin L. Robinson '87, Asa Gray Professor of Systematic Botany, has resigned effective September 1 according to an announcement from the Corporation yesterday. Since 1892 he has been curator of the Gray Herbarium.

Dr. Robinson is the world's greatest authority on the asters of Mexico, Central America, and South America and has been honored both here and abroad for his service to Botany. During the 43 years he has directed the Herbarium, it has tripled in size to become the most important establishment of its kind in the world.

Robinson succeeded Dr. Serene Watson who had taken over the collection after Gray's resignation in 1873, Gray had moved to the Garden Street location as the result of differences with Louis Agassiz about 1865.
