‘The Architect of the Whole Plan’: Harvard Law Graduate Ken Chesebro’s Path to Jan. 6
In a quiet orderly meeting of about 50 charter members, the Harvard Unit of the Massachusetts Landon-Knox Republican College Club was officially organized last night in the Junior Common Room of Kirkland House. David J. Davidson '37 represented the National Republican Committee, while Ira A. Watson '37 acted as temporary chairman at the request of the Republican State Committee.
Officers elected were William J. Hammond Jr. '37, president, John L. Stegmaier '37, Ross P. Staples 37, and William A. Hunt 3L, vice-presidents, and Watson, secretary. Fortunately the nominations were closed before a further increase in vice-presidents.
All Voters to be Canvassed
The purpose of the club, as outlined by Watson, is to canvass thoroughly all eligible voters and see that they become registered. Absentee ballots will be procured through the organization.
In his speech Hammond stated emphatically that he considered the election of Landon as "equally important" to obtaining" a clean sweep" in the Massachusetts State elections.
Elliot Perkins, Lowell House tutor, as faculty adviser of the organization, declared that he did not consider himself a "bulwark" between the club and the dean's office but that he was glad to do what he could about getting rid of the Roosevelt administration.
Organizer of the Landon-Knox College Clubs throughout Massachusetts, Alexander Welch made the final speech of the evening. He presented some of the more attractive jobs in connection with the club, such as driving carloads of people to the polls, each car being understood to contain very personable young ladies as escorts
