An unofficial meeting was held yesterday noon by the seven House Masters with Dean Hanford and President Conant to consider, among other matters, the parietal rules. No action whatsoever was taken and no new rule was proposed to take the place of the present "double or nothing" rule regarding the entertainment of female guests.
Comment could not be obtained from any faculty member and as far as could be learned, the meeting was merely to discuss the situation as it is at present.
The rule, as it reads now, provides that permission to entertain female guests will be granted only when two women are present. In former years it was possible to take a single girl to a House room without a chaperone, provided permission had been obtained several days in advance and all such guests were registered in writing with the House secretary or the senior tutor.
The rule applies only to Houses; in all other College buildings the former regulation making it necessary to have an older person to act as chaperone is still in force.
