TWELVE DIVIDE $1400 IN STOUGHTON PRIZES
College's Third Oldest Scholarship Goes to Honor Men From Dorchester and Mattapan
Benefiting from the experiences of a man at college 286 years age, 12 undergraduates were named by University Hall yesterday to share $1400 in Stoughton Scholarships.
Lieutenant-Governor William Stoughton, Class of 1650, established the foundation, one of Harvard's oldest, in 1701. His scholarships are awarded on the basis of high scholastic achievement to any students in the University but go by preference to men from Dorchester.
The recipients this year are:
Paul G. Bamberg '38, Mattapan; Elliott Bresnick '39, Dorchester; Ira Chart '37, Dorchester; Louis J. Dunham, Jr. '39, Dorchester; Stanley S. Kanter '38, Mattapan; Philip Levine '39, Dorchester; Bernard A. Orkin '38, Dorchester; Harry Pollard '39, Dorchester; Melvin Richter '37, Dorchester; Sidney Sulkin '39, Dorchester; Theodore H. White '38, Dorchester; and Charles Zibbell '38, Dorchester.
