SAMUEL MATHER'S DIPLOMA PRESENTED TO UNIVERSITY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

A diploma issued to Samuel Mather in 1701 by his grand uncle, Increase Mather, Harvard president and famous preacher, which is believed to be the second oldest Harvard diploma in existence, has been presented to the University by the Harvard Club of New York City in honor of the Tercentenary.

The design for the seal, made by John Coney, Boston silversmith, in 1693, is so well done that it was adopted last June as the model for the new type of A.B. and A.M. diplomas.
