President Conant last night issued a statement accepting the invitation to attend the 550th Anniversary of Heidelberg University. Whether Heidelberg has yet replied to Harvard's invitation to participate in the Tercentenary celebration and if so whether the reply was an acceptance or refusal, Harvard authorities were unable to tell last night although replies have been coming in for two weeks from universities all over the world.

The statement of acceptance came shortly after the Corporation meeting and is as follows: "Harvard University plans to appoint a delegate to the 550th Anniversary of the Founding of the University of Heidelberg. The President and Fellows, in accepting the invitation of the University of Heidelberg, recognize the ancient ties by which the Universities of the world are united and which are independent of the political conditions existing in any country at any particular time."

As is usual in such celebrations, some faculty member who is planning to be in Europe in June will be named the official delegate. No choice has yet been made.

Beside the Tercentenary invitation to the universities themselves, Harvard has also asked individuals of worldwide scholastic renown to attend the Tercentenary Conference which will take place in the two weeks preceding the actual celebration. From Germany 12 such preeminent men were invited and all have accepted. It was thought that among them there was one professor from Heidelberg University, but as was the case with the other replies, University authorities were not certain yesterday.
