More than 190 residents of Winthrop House have signed petitions to be presented today to Aldrich Durant '02, Business Manager of the University, for the purpose of effecting the return of Andrew "Andy" Wilson, one of the night janitors who have recently been shifted to other posts.
Miller and Dewey
The petitions, drawn up by Edward O. Miller '37 and Bradley Dewey, Jr. '37, have been circulating around the House for the past five days. Last night they were displayed on both doors of the dining hall with the signatures of approximately three-fourths of the residents.
Text of Petition
The requests read as follows:
"Due to the deep regard in which we hold Andy Wilson, recent night janitor, we, the undersigned, hereby petition that he be returned to Winthrop House."
"We do petition this, not because of any dislike for the present night janitor, but rather because we have grown to regard Andy during the past three years as an integral part of the House."
Durant Comments
Commenting on the transferring of all of the night janitors and watchmen, Durant remarked that the action was merely a routine procedure, and that the men will continue to be shifted about from time to time in order that in a few years they may be familiar with all the "beats" in the University.
He explained that it was not at all due to any dissatisfaction with the present disposition of posts, but a mere matter of policy designed to insure the University against the emergency of a shortage of janitors well sequainted with each House.
