Kirkland House began the defense of its House football championship Monday afternoon by smothering Dunster's attack 26-0 on Soldiers Field. The Kirkland boys demonstrated an extensive and powerful ball toting organization.
Kirkland's first march to the goal was uninterrupted after Dunster's opening kickoff. The Kirkland quarterback, Wills, opened the path for Captain Wiley Mayno to scurry goalward. The point after touchdown failed. For the rest of the first quarter the Dunster eleven gave ground only slowly. The quarter ended as Dunster stopped two threatening end runs deep in their territory. McClure edged the ball consistently goalward.
Soon after the opening of the second quarter the powerful defenders pushed the ball over again and made the point. Dunster threw the Kirkland boys deep into their own territory by a quick kick which was entirely unexpected., and sailed over the head of the safety man.
Kirkland again marched goalward in the third quarter but failed the kick. Dunster punted from their own territory and Kirkland's safety man returned the punt only to lose the ball on a fumble when tackled. The Dunster team could not move the ball the required ten yards. Later a fifteen yard penalty placed the bal almost on the Dunster goal. McClure ran it over, and a pass made the extra point.
Dunster made its first first down in the fourth quarter when Mulliken demonstrated some brilliant open field running.
