Eliot and Winthrop House both came through with victories yesterday in the House football league, the Elephants throttling Adams 12-0 and the Puritans edging Lowell 6-0.
Both games had a marked effect on the standings. Eliot went into a tie with Leverett for the second position, only one point behind the undefeated Kirkland eleven, while Winthrop jumped into a tie with Lowell for the third spot. The Elephants and the Bellboys, however, have played one less games than the Rabbits and the Bellboys.
Three Elephant Marches
Three marches of 60 yards by the Eliotmen featured their victory over Adams. Once they were stopped on the two-yard stripe, but the other two drives produced touchdowns.
The first score was produced by a short pass from quarterback Ashley Trope to halfback Frank Eaton, while Trope's line plunge was good enough to tally the second six points after another march. Both extra point attempts fizzled.
Blocked Kick Wins for Puritans
Highlight of the Winthrop-Lowell tilt came in the second-half. Puritan's fullback Ed Hindle started things with a 70-yard quick kick. Lowell called on Arnie Litt to punt the pigskin out of danger, but the Winthrop line, led by right end Baumgarten and left tackle Cole, broke through and blocked the attempt, with Colo recovering and running 20 yards for the score. A pass for the extra point failed.
The lineups: Eliot: Schutzer, Westheimer, Halff, Blaine. Adams: Williston. Subs: Winthrop: Blanchard, Welles, Flinn. Lowell: Gooder, Conroy. Two touch football games were played yesterday with Lowell defeating Leverett 7-3 in one game and Kirkland and Dudley tying 4-4 in the other.
