DEVOTO RUMORED RETURNING TO CAMBRIDGE NEXT AUTUMN

Bernard De Voto '18 will return to Cambridge to live next fall, according to a rumor steadily gaining credence in the College. Last month he resigned the editorship of the Saturday Review of Literature, a position he had held since he quit Harvard in 1936.

Instructor in the Department of English from 1929 to 1936, De Voto taught a course in composition, English A-3, and another in contemporary American literature, English 70. At present he writes the "Easy Chair" column for Harper's and is living in New York.

His influence upon undergraduates in the field of English was once compared by his students to that of Barrett Wendell. Among his books have been "Mark Twain's America," "Forays and Rebuttals," a collection of essays, and a novel, "We Accept with Pleasure."
