At least 50 more vacancies in the Houses than last year, a total number of 646 for all seven Houses was announced in a statement by Dean Hanford yesterday afternoon. A table follows giving the total capacity of each of the seven Houses and the approximate number of openings available for new men in each House this spring.
In most Houses the number of vacancies is about one-third of the total capacity. Variations from this proportion are due to the fact that in several of the Houses, and in one in particular, the number of Seniors who are leaving because of graduation is considerably larger than usual. The rest of Dean Hanford's statement follows:
"The figures are presented at this time to give students applying for the Houses all available information and to clear up certain misunderstandings regarding the number of accommodations available. One the other hand, men are warned against being unduly influenced by the number of places available in a particular House in making their choices."
"The best way to find out the actual situation concerning vacancies in each House, especially regarding the types of accommodation and price, is by interviews with the House representatives. Above everything else, the importance of the educational factors in making a choice should not be overlooked."
