Hoopster Squad to Travel This Weekend For Encounters With Two Opponents

Bruins and Wesleyan Will Be Strong Opposition to Crimson

By Donald Peddle

Wes Fesler's young basketball squad hits the roads this week and tackles formidable opposition in the Bruins of Brown University and the Cardinals of Wesleyan. In both games the Crimson hoopmen will take the floor as underdogs, but they are expected to give a good account of themselves in each encounter and will gain valuable experience.

Coach Eck Allen's Bruins handed the Feslermen an unmerciful plastering in the Indoor Athletic Building last year, and with an all-veteran team on hand, they are primed to repeat the process tomorrow night in Providence.

Captain Hurry Platt and George Fisher are slated to be the starting forwards, Bom Person is the ranking center, and Jack Padden and Tank Wilson are the first-string guards. All of the five starters are lettermen who participated in last year's rout.

Bruin reserves are slightly below average, but Ward Sheffe, Bill Kelly, and George Davis have indicated that they are ready to stop in to relieve their mates without weakening the team too much. The Allenmen have registered victories over the Alumni and Clark in their opening clashes.

Wesleyan Prospects

The Wesleyan Cardinals, defending Little Three titlists, succumbed to the Crimson 45 to 40 in the Indoor Athletic Building last year, but will offer stiffer opposition on Thursday in Middletown, Conn. Coach Dale Lash lost by graduation stars of the first magnitude in guard Jee Morningstar, and Dick Phelps, a good center, but prospects are above average.

There are eight returning lettermen, including Rex Knowles, second to Morningstar in points scored last season with a total of 132, and John Havighurst, a regular guard. In addition, there are seven outstanding Freshmen of a year ago who have graduated to the ranks of the Varsity.
