LONDON--Winston Churchill, who as Minister of Colonies in 1922 signed the treaty recognizing the Irish Free State, tonight assailed Prime Minister Eamon De Valera of Ireland as a man who might "strike Britain in the back" in time of war. Churchill, attacking the Irish leader on the floor of the House of Commons, said that "dark forces of the Irish underworld tried to strike us in the back" during the World War "and there are still dark forces at work in Ireland now." In event of war, he added, Ireland might remain neutral or demand "the whole of Ireland" as a price for throwing in their lot with England.
