Opportunities To Debate Open To Inexperienced '44

Gillette Announces Milton Debate To Inaugurate Well Rounded Season

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Opportunities to debate with other colleges are open for Freshmen with no debating experience, according to Robert W. Gillette '44, temporary chairman of the Freshman Debating Council. The first meeting of the newly combined Foreign Affairs Discussion Group and Debating Council is at 7:30 o'clock tonight in the Upper Common Room of the Union.

Gillette especially wants men with no formal debating experience, although all are welcome. Prizes will reward the best speakers in the tryouts for the Princeton and Yale debates. A contest with Milton Academy in about three weeks will inaugurate a season of 25 or 30 debates.

In addition to the usual cross-examination debates, the Council will experiment with a system in which short speeches are followed by general discussion.
