SPORTS of the CRIMSON

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Facing a stiff task of reorganizing the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletics along with the I. C. 4A, Asa S. Bushnel newly appointed director, at a press luncheon of Metropolitan and CRIMSON Sports Editors, yesterday asserted that his biggest fight will be determining the appointment of officials for the 11 leagues under his supervision.

In his executive position in the Central Office for Eastern Intercollegiate Athletics (jokingly termed the C. I. O. by George Carens of the Transcript for "Central Intercollegiate Office). Bushnell admitted that a second problem lies in convincing members of the organization that the group exists for the purpose of running athletics and not for the sake of the constitution.

The inefficiency of past methods of naming sports officials was voiced by all sports editors with Bill Bingham, Athletic Director here, illustrating instances of poor appointments. Bingham said, "We've been getting men for Jayvee and Freshmen games, who have been cast-off from other lists." Even in Varsity games, he added, men have been sent to referee who in previous years had proved unsatisfactory.

It is this feeling and complaint prevalent in the east that Bushnell wishes to sound out and satisfy. His present tour, meeting college officials and writers is really a pilgrimage for ideas and an eventful solution of the perplexing problem of sport referees.
