HARVARD WORK CAMPS PLANNED

A work camp program for Harvard became a reality yesterday afternoon at a meeting of interested undergraduates under the direction of Raymond Dennett '36.

Not only did the group agree on a community-aiding work camp to be started this summer, but a committee was appointed to draw up a complete plan, locate a site, and organize students interested in the project. The steering committee tentatively consists of the following: Alan Getting '42, Frederick R. Rosenberg '41, Norris L. Tibbetts, Jr. '42, and Royal G. Whiting, Jr. '42.

Consider Various Types

Three types of possible work camp development were discussed but no final judgment was made. An independent camp, organized and administered exclusively by Harvard students, and a plan to locate enthusiastic students in existing camps were considered.

Affiliation of the Harvard Movement, possessing its own camp and projects, with a group like the Quaker or Work Camps for America gained the Widest support. These two organizations, similar in their general construction and purposes, have formed summer work camps throughout the country.

The Quaker program, however, stresses a long working day.
