Harvard Students To Vote on Divestment From Israel in Inaugural HUA Election Survey
Arthur B. Lamb, Erving Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Chemical Laboratory, has been appointed Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, effective February 1, 1940, it was announced yesterday. He succeeds Dean George H. Chase, who resigned a year ago to become Dean of the University.
Teaching Here Since 1905
Educated at Tufts, Harvard, Leipzig, and Heidelberg, Dean Lamb has been a member of the Department of Chemistry continuously since 1905, and became Director of the Chemical Laboratory in 1912.
Dean Lamb has been Editor of the Journal of the American Chemical Society since 1917, and was President of the Society in 1933. During the World War he served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Chemical Warfare Service.
Lawrence S. Mayo, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School, who was Acting Dean, will continue in his former position.
