James R. Stewart of Belmont will officially succeed General Charles R. Apted today as superintendent of caretakers and head OF the Yard Police.
Stewart has been unofficially carrying out the duties of General Apted office during the latter's convalescence from asthma and severe head cold. The latest reports are that Apted is "up and about" and "doing well.
With reference to his position Stewart said that he "expected to follow along the lines laid down by General Apted "both with respect to personnel and to policies."
The superintendent will be in charge of 400 employees in his new capacity. A graduate of Vanderbilt University in 1915 and a construction engineer, he was first connected with the University when he helped build Wigglesworth Hall.
