Wrestling Team Disappointed at Tie For Sixth in Eastern Championships

Schoenberg, Daughaday, Thomas Unable to Combat Stiff Competition

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With a disappointing score, the Crimson wrestling team emerged from the Eastern Championships with seven points for a tie for sixth place. It was after the team had engaged in the stiffest competition in the history of the Championships.

Top scorer for the Crimson outfit was Ted Schoenberg who won two points on a default and a fall and three points by taking second place in his weight class. His total scored was equivalent to winning a first place. The actual championship in this weight was won by Captain Dick Harding of Princeton who had finally come through with a decision over Schoenberg in an overtime semi-final match.

Dauthaday Edged

Captain Bill Daughaday, originally seeded number one was defeated in the finals by the slimmest of margins. Schrader of Lehigh was a very strong wrestler, and neither he nor Daughaday could meet with a common form of wrestling. Daughaday's standups and drags, particularly the former, were clicking, but he was outmatched in the overtime by Schrader's persistent, under arm spin.

Daughaday found it hard to click in the consolation that followed immediately against the powerful Cornell into. The other point of the meet was won by Dick Thomas in a pin over Bond, capitals of the Pennsylvania team. He was later eliminated by Penn State's Scale in a consolation bent.

The other men in the running for consolation position were Dick Aldrich and Tudor Gardiner. Aldrich was finally put out by Kern of Cornell in a decision, and Gardiner fell out when he was defeated by Lehr of Lehigh by a Wolf of Pennsylvania whom Gardiner had defeated earlier this year. Wolf was given third place.
