OFFICERS TO FINE ROOM CONTRACT CANCELLING

Those students who decide to give up House rooms for which they have signed in favor of living outside will in future be fined fifty dollars unless they have "valid reasons," according to a statement recently issued by Dean Hanford at the request of the House masters.

Passed by a vote of the Corporation, the resolution states, "In view of the complications that are caused when a student who has been asigned to a room in a House later decides to live outside the House, a charge of $50 will be imposed in such cases whether or not the room is reassigned, unless the Master of the House shall have recommended that the change was made for valid reasons, in which case the charge will be waived."

"It is hoped," Dean Hanford stated, "that the charge will deter men from signing contracts with the thought that they will perhaps give up their assignment before the beginning of the next college year in order to live outside the House.

The change did not come "merely upon the recommendation of "University Hall" or the Central Committee," he added.
