Designed for students concentrating in the Social Science area, a new course, Sociology 6a, has been announced for next year.
Edward Y. Hartshorn '33, instructor in Sociology, will conduct the half year study, Sociology of Occupations, which will be followed by a similar subject dealing with the professions during the second half year, to be given by Talcott Parsons, associate professor of Sociology.
The new course will deal with the broad field of Occupations, composed basically of three groups: trained technicians; executives; and labor; while the field of Professions is concerned primarily with the first category alone. Hartshorn will treat the roles which individuals from these various groups play in the social system, the processes of training by which these individuals are fitted for their life's work, and the functional importance of the various occupations in society.
Covering such a wide field Sociology 6a is well adapted to those who favor a split concentration.
