Langer to Publish Encyclopaedia on History of World

Edited by William L. Langer '15, Coolidge Professor of History, and a staff of assistants, a massive 1300 page work covering world history from prehistoric times till the present day will be published late in July or early August.

"The Encyclopedia of World History" is intended primarily as a reference book, and is divided into fifteen sections, each dealing with a particular historical period.

Among those assisting Professor Langer in the writing of the encyclopedia are Lauriston Ward, lecturer on anthropology; Robert O. Schlaiffer, instructor in history; Mason Hammond, associate professor of Greek and Latin and of history, in the field of ancient history.

Charles S. Gardner, assistant professor of Chinese, Edwin O. Reischauer, instructor in far eastern languages; John K. Fairbank, instructor in history; and William Thompson, James Richard Jewett professor of Arabic, trace the history of Asia.

Paul V. Cram, instructor in history; Clarence C. Brinton, associate professor of history; Edward H. Chamberlain, professor of economics; Donald C. McKay, assistant professor of history; and David R. Roberts, assistant in economics, contribute to the history of Europe.
