AWARDS FOR ESSAYS ANNOUNCED HERE

Annual prize awards in political science, history and literature were announced by the University today as follows:

The Summer prize in political science of $450 was awarded to Manes Specter, candidate for a Ph. D. in government, for the best dissertation dealing with the prevention of war. The Toppan prize of $200, in political science, was awarded to Oliver Garceau, who received a Ph. D. in political science in February.

The Eastern prize of $50 was awarded to Donald W. Oraig 2G.

The Sobier prize of $250, for the best thesis by a candidate for honors in English or in modern literature, was awarded in David F. Aberie.

The James Gordon Bennett prize of $100, for the best essay on contemporary American governmental policy, was awarded to Louis Herts.

The Philo Sherman Bennett prize of $350, for the best essay on free government, went to Phil C. Neal '40.

The Phillip Washburn Prize of $140, for the best thesis presented by a candidate for the Bachelor's degree with honors in history, was awarded to Charles D'Autremont '40.
