Boston is the bull's eye in a huge defense target embracing the entire New England area. Production in Germany of a Nazi version of the flying fortress is reported to be under full steam, and a token bombing of New England calculated to panic its people and production would be far from unlikely in case of war.
Harvard is surrounded by what the communiques laconically term "military objectives." A huge munitions works on one side of the University balances Boston's extensive shipping facilities on the other, and defense factories are strewn throughout the entire metropolitan area. Harvard is slow to move fast, but a week ago today the Administration announced the establishment of an Air Raid Warden's course scheduled for its first meeting tonight.
Those who take the course will find it interesting and useful, even if a "schrechlichkeit" raid never materializes. President Roosevelt has designated today as Sign Up for Defense Day, and the student who supports his anti-Fascist policy can demonstrate his conviction by appearing at the New Lecture Hall tonight at 8 o'clock.
