ARP COURSE TO OPEN TONIGHT

Harvard's chief warden, Business, Manager Aldrich Durant '02, will explain the ARP setup in Cambridge, with special reference to College buildings and groups, when the special Air Raid Precaution course meets for the first time in Emerson D this evening at 8 o'clock.

The total of 137 who have registered for the course is considered an excellent turnout by Durant, but late arrivals may register tonight. The course, which will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays through December 16, except for Thanksgiving, will consist largely of lectures lasting about two hours, according to Assistant Dean Henry Chauncey.

There will also be a laboratory demonstration of the theory of combustion and its control, and outdoor study of anti-bomb defense and of blackout.

Although there will be no examination or tests to worry about, attendance will be taken at the meetings, for 15 hours of this course, together with 10 hours of first aid, are the requirements for the insignia of Federal Air Raid Warden. This award certifies the recipient for duty anywhere in the United States.

Those who take the course will form the nucleus for the civilian defense organization which will be established in January at Harvard.
