Giving 22 players a chance to prove their worth in the first game of the season, Al McCoy, coach of the Freshman basketball team, nevertheless left his starting quintet in long enough to score a 46 to 37 victory over the M. I. T. Freshmen in the preliminary to the clash between the Varsity teams last night in the Indoor Athletic Building.
The sloppy play in the first half made it evident that both teams were playing their first game, and wild shooting and inaccurate passing were plentiful. The half ended with the score 19 to 13 in favor of Harvard.
In the second half the Crimson first team started to pile up points by means of some much-improved teamwork, and they ended the third quarter with the large lead of 13 points.
Then the subs, in spite of a shot at the wrong basket by one of their members, managed to protect the lead until the end of the game.
