Petitions nominating Seth C. Crocker and E. Langdon Burwell for Marshal of the Senior Class were submitted last night to Harrison T. Blaine, Jr. '42, chairman of the Student Council Election Committee.
The addition of these two names increases the list of marshal nominees to 17 with two and a half days left for more petitions to be submitted. The election for marshal will be held next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Burwell Nominated for Two Posts.
The addition of Burwell's name places him in two positions on the ballot as he had been nominated by the Nominating Committee for Permanent Class Treasurer. There is no reason, however, why he should not hold both positions.
The class marshal is a purely honorary post and the function of the three marshals is merely to lead the Class Day parade. The Treasurer's work, which is highly important in holding the members of a class together, does not begin until after graduation. Election as a marshal means nothing except as a traditional honor, but election as Class Treasurer carries with it an important responsibility.
Crocker was nominated by the Committee for the position of Class Secretary, but there is no reason why one man should not hold the positions of marshal and secretary at the same time. The secretary's job is comparable to that of the treasurer.
