Spending their last day on the water for the duration of the winter, nine crews made-up of members of the Varsity, 150 and Freshman squads this afternoon held their annual race of the fall on the Charles.
Although Harvey Love Freshman coach, will keep his crews on the water for a few more weeks, Tom Belles, Varsity coach, and Burt Haines, coach of the 150's, will take their oarsmen indoors to row in tanks during the winter months.
The nine-boat race which took place on a one-mile course, was won by a crew consisting of seven Freshmen and stroked by Dick Emmet. With Gus Merwin as their only Varsity regular, the crew rowed the course in 5:19, beating a crew stroked by Oreu Weed, with only six feet to spare.
Tying for third was a crew stroked by Varsity captain Bus Curwen which lost its early lead in the last 100 yards when one of the oarsmen caught a crab in the choppy sea. Finishing in a dead heat with a crew stroked by only man. Curwen followed Wood by only a dock-length.
