RUSS STANNARD RETURNS TO TACKLE

Sid Smith at Guard, O'Donnell Wingback

By Robert S. Landau

Russ Stannard, moved to right guard after Dartmouth's parade through the middle of the Crimson line, will be back at his regular tackle position this Saturday, with Sid Smith returning to the starting eleven.

The original shift was made necessary by an injury to Smith in the William and Mary game, but he has been doing contact work for two weeks now, and his performance for the time he was in against Michigan convinced Harlow and Line Coach Lyal Clarke that he was ready to be in at the kickoff.

Bob Fisher, Jr., oldest of the three foot balling brothers, has been improving steadily, and has worked his way up to a position just behind Smith at running guard, and will be the number one replacement.

At wingback, the injuries to Bill Wilson and Gordy Lyle have left Cleo O'Donnell as the only right half with playing experience. Since Cleo is not a 60-minute man, Harlow has been concentrating on a capable substitute.

Right now, and this will probably go for the Brown game. Bart Harvey is the second stringer, with Steve Gifford next in line. Harvey started the year on the Jayvees, made the Varsity squad just before the Penn game, and has been outstanding all season in mid-week scrimmages on the "C" team.

On the basis of their showing in the Michigan game, Charley Gudaitis and George Hibbard are neck and neck in the race for starting honors at left guard, with Bob Byruce, who has played every position between the tackles as well as blocking back, the third man for the spot.
