Juniors and Seniors who are studying electrical engineering or electronic physics may obtain draft deferment by joining the Enlisted Section of the Electrones Training Group, Professor A. James Casner revealed yesterday. These students will be exempted from active duty until the completion of their academic courses, which must be approved by the Chief Signal Officer.
Each applicant must get a statement from Colonel Philip Hayes, professor of Military Science and Tactics, to the effect that he is good officer material. Also, Harold M. Westergaard, dean of Engineering, must attest to the fact that the candidate is in reasonably good academic standing. If he fails in any course, he will be discharged.
