Shrewsbury Succeeds Harris As Swimming Team Captain

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Thomas Buckner Shrewsbury '42, of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Winthrop House was elected captain of the Varsity swimming team Saturday, in the first election in the team's history wherein the entire squad voted.

Shrewsbury succeeds Dick Harris, who left College for Business School last week after receiving his degree. A graduate of Pingry School, the new captain is a sprinter, competing in the 50 and 100 yard free style events for Coach Hal Ulen.

Usually only the major letter men on the squad cast votes in electing the captain, but that rule was waived in Saturday's balloting. There are only three major letter holders on the squad, Shaw McCutcheon, John Eusden, and Bill Drucker.

After the vote, Shrewsbury reported for examination for the V-7 branch of the Navy. If accepted, he will be deferred until the end of the school-year, when he will take his naval training. He majors in the Classics.
