James B. Jenkins '43, of Adams House and Weston, was elected captain of next year's tennis team at a meeting of the lettermen last week. He succeeds Orme Wilson, Jr. '42.
Jenkins, who has been the team's number one singles player for two years, was captain of his Freshman not team and has been one of Coach Jack Barnaby's most consistent winners in intercollegiate competition.
Although a very experienced singles player, Jenkins did not compete in doubles competition until this year when Coach Barnaby developed his net play and overhead game with the result that he and Captain Wilson saw action as the first or second double combination in most of the meets this year.
Since Wilson will be the only one lost by graduation, next year's team has the prospects of improving the mediocre record made by this year's aggregation, providing that no one leaves College before next spring.
If plans work out successfully, however, tennis matches may be arranged with other colleges and Army camps during the coming summer.
