Committee Chairman Selected By Council

HAA Economies Also Studied In Meeting

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

John M. Blum '43 was appointed Senior chairman of the Student Council's standing committee on Curriculum and Tenure, at a Council meeting Wednesday night, where discussion also covered a proposed study of possible economies in the H. A. A., and a committee on the problems of student morale in wartime.

Other appointments to the Curriculum and Tenure Committee were John Richardson, Jr. '43 as Student Council Representative, and Hugh M. Hyde '44 as Junior Chairman. The Committee, which consists of one Junior and Senior from each field of concentration, chosen by the two chairman, makes recommendations to the Faculty, on the approval of the Council, with regard to academic problems. The tutorial system, the rules for concentration and distribution, and the new area fields have been in part at least products of their deliberations.

H. A. A. to Be Investigated

The Council also requested the Undergraduate Athletic Council to make an investigation of possible economies in the various sports, and instructed its own committee, chaired by John W. Sullivan '43, to investigate general economies in the H. A. A. These investigations are designed to discover whether the announced price of next year's participation ticket, which has been set at $18 for the fall and spring, can be reduced.

Thomas Matters '43, Council President, was chosen to head a committee investigating the problems of student morale arising from confusion about the purpose of war-time College education. The Committee will attempt to arrange forums and discussions with prominent outside speakers on this topic.
