Al Everts, 'University tennis champion, had a busy time this weekend in the Essex County Tennis Tournament at the North Andover Country Club; reaching the final he was defeated 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, by Dave Freeman, 1m, National Badminton champion and holder of many tennis titles.
In the doubles, Everts and Don Manchester, Massachusetts State Doubles champions, were defeated 1-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 by Harrison Rowbotham and Al Stitt, State Singles champion.
Red Cross Tournament Advances
Dick Sorlein, Stu Hobbs, and Stacy Hill led the way into the quarter-final round of the Red Cross Tennis Tournament which began on August 24 and is scheduled to end by September 19.
Sorlein, Varsity number four man, defeated Irv Fried 6-2, 6-4 in the first round and then took Humphrey Moulton, Freshman from Milton who is on the Varsity squad, 6-4, 6-3.
Former Dartmouth Captain Wins
In the first round Hobbs beat Eric Petscheck 6-0, 6-0 and in the second round rallied after losing the first set 6-2, taking the next two from Mel Kessel 6-1, 6-1. Hobbs is now scheduled to meet Sorlein.
The other quarter-finalist, Stacy Hill 1GB, former Dartmouth captain, defeated Morrie Hallowell 6-2, 6-1 and then went into the round of eight by winning from Dave Chatfield 6-1, 6-1.
John T. Dunlop, instructor in Economics, who was runner-up in the University Tournament, won his first round match as did Mal Moley, Freshman star from California.
