PRIVATE STONE '42 RECEIVES HONORS

Devens M. P. is Nation's Youngest Legislator at 21

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

According to the Fort Devens Digest, PFC Jack A. Stone '42, of the 324th MP Escort Guard Company of Fort Devens, has gained military as well as political honors, for he received a special commendation for work he did at the scene of a train wreck.

The commendation was given to the 21 year old private and politician by Brigadier-General Paul B. Clemens, commanding general of the 7th Service Command of Omaha, Nebraska. Stone was recently elected to the Indiana Legislature and is the nation's youngest law maker.

Stone's nomination was prompted by a chance remark of his father's, who had been asked to name a possible candidate. Stone made no election speeches, although his father read one which he had previously written. Nevertheless, he was elected with a total of 15,000 votes.

After his election, Stone did not expect to be able to assume his position in the Indiana Legislature since his duties with the Army would keep him from the inauguration, but following a subsequent injury from a train wreck, he was able to attend the inauguration ceremonies during his convalescence.
