Formally opening the annual Boylston Contest for speakers in the College, Robert S. Hillyer, Boylston Professor, of Rhetoric and Oratory, announced yesterday that preliminary tryouts would be held on March 12, when the final contestants will be chosen. Finals in the contest will be held on March 24, with judges yet to be chosen. In spite of the war conditions the contest, which has been held for over a century, will not break its continuity this year, Professor Hillyer announced.
In last year's 126th annual contest Alan S. Epstein '43 and John W. Sullivan '43 won first prizes of $35 each. They were selected from a group of ten speakers, who were judged on delivery and the aptness of their subject.
