GEN. MACARTHUR'S HEADQUARTERS, Australia--The besieged Japanese defense positions in the Buna area of New Guinea are being kept under continous artillery and mortar fire while Allied planes continue to blast them with bombs and bullets the Allied Command announced today.
Fifteen miles northwest of Buna Allied patrols are mopping up Japanese stragglers west of Gona which fell to Australian troops last Wednesday said the mid-day communique from Allied headquarters.
