Basic courses in Military Sciences will be offered this term to new Freshmen who are approaching draft age and desire a military background, it was announced by army ROTC Department of Harvard College.

The course is designed to give the student a basic introduction to such subjects as: infantry drill, military customs and discipline of the service, organization of the army, defense against chemical attack, first aid treatment of wounds, safe-guarding military information and other allied subjects. The department supplies uniforms and equipment used in the training of the students.

Mil Sci 1a is being given as a half course on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. There is a drill period of two hours that will be arranged as far as possible to fit into the academic schedule of the student. Students can continue their training in the summer term with Mil Sci 1b. Men who have previous military experience will be allowed to apply for the second year course of Military Science.

Although in war time ROTC courses do not necessarily lead to a commission, military authorities recognize that men with such a background definitely have an advantage over those boys that were taken from civilian life without previous training.

All students interested in this program should apply at the Military Department headquarters, 60 Boylston Street, between 9:00 and 11:00 o'clock any day this week to learn more of the plans and details for the course.
