HARVARD WINS IN RUGBY, 17-5

New Zealanders Thwarted As Loos Scores 11 Points

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Once again Harvard's rugby team proved to the British Empire players that long experience and understanding of the game alone is not sufficient to prevent a comparatively green but closely coordinated American squad from winning. By the end of the hour-long fast and open game, the Crimson players had amassed a total of 17 points against the are chalked up by a team of the Royal New Zealand Navy.

Coach Syd Cabot's efforts to coordinate the forward players in the scrummages proved their worth Saturday. Frank Garfield of the V-12 playing in the hook position, flanked by Bob Kennedy and Don Hodge, also of the V-12, was able to heel the ball out to the backs in some of the best scrummaging of the season.

Despite the loss for the rest of the season of Dunney Smith from Adams House, whose brilliant backfield playing along with his conversion kicking has been responsible for much of the scoring is the three previous games, the two other 3/4 position backs, Steve Ausnit and John Loos, both from Dunster, were able to crash over the New Zealand goal line on five different occasions. Loos was the star for the afternoon with three trys and a conversion kick to his credit for a total of 11 points.

Murley Scores Again

Forward Murley of the New Zealand team, who last week played with the Australians and made their one scoring, a four-point field goal,-again booted the ball over the Crimson goal posts for two points after Prouse of the New Zealanders had scored a try. At no point, however, were the New Zealand players able to match the Crimson team, which was on the offensive throughout the game, despite the fact that Harvard was playing against its stiffest and most experienced opposition to date.

The lineup for Saturday's game was as follows:

HARVARD: Pritchard, f.b.; Golden, r.w.; Cummings, l.w.; Loos, 3/4; Ausnit, 3/4; Thomas, s.o.h.; Gross, s.h.; Worthington, f.; Hodge, f.; Garfield, f.; Kennedy, f.; Wilson, f.; Jessop, f.; Weisberg, f.; Bresnahan, f.
