Curtis Cate slammed in a hard angle shot from twenty yards to the right of the goal in the first 30 seconds of play to give the Varsity soccer team a 1 to 0 victory over M.I.T. last Saturday afternoon on the Business School Field. After the first quick score the game settled down to a see-saw battle with neither team having much of an advantage or being able to score again.

The Crimson took the ball at the opening whistle and developed an attack down the right side of the field with Phil Potter, Roger Lazarus and Cate doing the ball-handling. Cate got a pass near the right corner, dribbled past one man and shot for the goal. The ball skimmed just beyond the reach of the Tech goalie and lodged squarely in the far corner of the nets.

Honors were about even for the rest of the contest although the Crimson probably controlled the ball the better part of the game. Each side missed at least two shots that appeared to be headed for sure goals while in the third period Tech failed to score on a penalty kick which the referee awarded when one of the Varsity defensemen touched the ball in a scrimmage in front of the Harvard goal-mouth.

Dick Harshman, in the nets for the Crimson, turned in 88 minutes of consistently brilliant play as he registered the first shutout performance of the year for the Crimson. His save on the penalty penalty kick was a highlight.
