PITTSBURGH-Trustees of the University of Pittsburg tonight gave Charles W. (Chisel) Bowser a 3-year contract as head coach of the University's football team and at the same time appointed a committee to investigate Pitt's "athletic situation."
Bowser succeeds John Bain (Jock) Sutherland, who resigned March 4 because of "intolerable" conflict between the faculty committee on athletics and the athletic department.
Bowser twice was assistant coach at Pitt under Sutherland. He resigned at the end of 1937 to devote full time to his insurance business.
