Vets' Theater To Pick Next Play With Poll

Group Seeks Production With Wide Student Appeal; Kilty Remains Workshop Director

Hoping to avoid the criticism of subject matter following its recent production of "I Was a King in Babylon," the Veterans' Theater Workshop will put the selection of its spring production in the hands of the student body.

In a school-wide poll to be conducted during the first week of the reading period, faculty members as well as undergraduates will be given the chance to list their preferences for the theater group's spring play.

Ballots, according to Mendy Weisgal '45, 1G, will list representative drama from early times down to the present and will allow voters maximum freedom in making their choices.

"The Workshop," said Weisgal, "maintains that even the best production of the fourth finest classic would meet with the same indifference as did 'King in Babylon.' We hopes as a result of the poll to be able to select a play with universal appeal and prove that we are wrong."

At a recent organizational meeting, Workshop members re-elected Jerome T. Kilty '50 managing director, and appointed Blair Boyd '48 assistant manager and William Becker '47 secretary. Selected as members of the play reading committee were Weisgal, Kenneth Koch '48, and Miss Marie Heath.
