Unsteady Crimson Bows to Favored Dartmouth Skaters

Indians Chalk Up 14 Tallies to Losers, 5

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

In a rousing scorefest that ran just about true to form, a powerful Dartmouth hockey team took the Crimson skaters into camp by a score of 14 to 5 at the Boston Arena Friday night. It was the old, old story of an experienced, rugged outfit pitted against an undeveloped, younger one, and let it be to the credit of Johnny Chase's men that they managed to punch out five markers against the stiff Indian defense.

Close First Period

Although they stuck close to the Big Green during the first period, Captain Bill Ayres and his teammates were clearly no match for the fast skating and solid checking of the Hanover aggregation. Time and time again a Crimson forward would break away with the puck, and race unsupported down the ice, only to lose it as the Dartmouth defensemen combined to eliminate him before he could get a shot.

By way of contrast coordination and cohesion on both attack and defense marked the play of the skilled Hanoverians. Precise passing and clever feints drew the home team goalies out of the cage time and time again, long enough for the Indians to slap the puck home.

Not One-Sided

It wasn't all one-sided, however, for the Crimson goals, though in the main not the result of obviously set-up plays, were not flukes by any means. Bram Arnold and John Forte both beat the Dartmouth net-minders twice with nice shots, and Bill Ayres accounted for the other.
