Balloting officially for the first time since its recognition by the University in October, the Republican Open Forum last week elected a slate of officers for the coming term.
The new officials of the 40-member group include William A. Rusher 1L, chairman, and Daniel M. Pierce '49 and Clifford R. Hope, Jr. '47, vice-chairmen. Rusher, in addition to organizational duties, will preside at the monthly forums.
Open to all shades of opinion, the organization is more than a discussion group, according to its new officers. After each meeting ballots are distributed, and the members register their conclusions on the question at hand.
Previous forums have discussed such topics as "Costs of Government" and "The Future of Youth in the Republican Party." Seymour E. Harris '20, professor of Economics, and Congressman Christian E. Herter of Massachusetts addressed the group on these occasions. The subject of the next meeting, to be held in February, has not yet been selected.
