Yardlings Take Wrestling, Fencing Honors, Lose to Exeter Swimmers

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Yardling grapplers and swordsmen emerged victorious in Saturday's three-pronged attack on Exeter by respective 16 to 12 and 12 to 6 margins, while the '50 mermen were submerged 29 to 37. Because of unsuitable ice conditions, the hockey teams did not meet.

Howie Houston, wrestling in the unlimited class, and 121-pound Jim Waddell pinned their opponents to throw the weight of the match to the Crimson and overcome four decisions taken by Exeter.

Two Freshman foil teams saw action against the Exonians, winning by 7 to 2 and 5 to 4 scores. Formidable Worcester Academy swordsmen will put the Yardlings to a stiffer test Wednesday in the Indoor Athletic Building.

Woods Breaks Former Record

Former Exeter backstroker Tom Woods stood out in his squad's defeat, breaking his own prep school 199-yard record by five seconds, and later spurring the three-man medley team to victory.
