Varsity Skaters Outlast Fast Needham Club 7-4 at Arena

Jayvees and Freshmen Share In Triple Ice Win; Preston Scores Thrice for Chasemen

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Three Crimson hockey teams were victorious yesterday, as the Varsity took a fast, close game from the Needham Hockey Club 7 to 4 in the Arena, following a 10 to 2 win for the Jayvees over Medford and un unofficial 6 to 0 shutout for the Freshmen at the expense of Belmont Hill.

Four goals for the Chasemen in the second period proved the margin of victory. Needham rallied to score twice at the start of the third period and pull up to within one goal of a tie, and the final outcome remained in doubt with both teams staging frequent scoring attacks until Lou Preston sunk the clincher at 15:30 unassisted.

Score Shorthanded

This goal came under a rare circumstance which found the Crimson a man short staging a two-man breakaway while five Needham skaters were left flatfooted at the wrong end of the rink. It was Preston's third marker of the evening.

Bill Ayres picked up three scoring points last night and now ranks third, with 15, behind Dave Farrell and Wally Sears, who have 18 and 16 points respectively.

The Jayvees in their preliminary game were led by Blair Fuller, Ham Coolidge, and Fred Richardson of the second line. Fuller scored four times.

George Gebelein started at wing for the Varsity in place of the ailing Bob Feloney. The team will have a game with Williams tomorrow prior to its Saturday tilt with the Elis at New Haven.
