Practically everyone who has a phone on order will have it installed in his room and connected by November 1, the Telephone Company reported yesterday.
The Bell offices have been installing the instruments at the rate of about 85 a day, all of them to go on the new University exchange. About 550 were working in students' rooms when the exchange first went into operation Saturday.
The new exchange will be able to handle about 2,000 subscribers, with the great majority of these members of the University. All will be listed in the revised directory which goes out to subscribers on November 1. The phone company says that current orders will be taken care of within a month.
