Grapplers Tackle Tough West Point Mat Squad Today

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Beating a strong Army team at West Point is the formidable task which faces Chief Boston's varsity wrestling team this afternoon. Not many squads turn that task on the plains above the Hudson, for the deafening cheers and the give-no-quarter tactics of the Cadets are unique obstacles in Eastern college competition.

"We will have to beat Army if we expect to have a good season," Boston said yesterday, "but they have a good team and the meet is away." Led by 155-pound Stanley Thevenant, the Eastern intercollegiate champ, Army's undefeated grapplers have some of the best talent which the Crimson will see all winter.

Westfall New Starter

To try for the fourth Harvard win of the season Boston has a slightly juggled lineup. Jim Westfall, a Freshman star last year who became eligible for Varsity competition at midterm, will wrestle at 128 against Cadet ace Arnold Raabe.

At 155, with Sandy Jones out with a fractured arm and Ray Rogers no longer in College, Boston will use Jim Conant, a 1947 substitute, as a foil for the mighty Thevenant. The rest of the team will be the same as that which faced Columbia three weeks ago with captain Pete Fuller at heavy, Dan Ray at 145 and Don Louria at 165 as the most likely winners for the Crimson.

The wrestlers carry into the West fracas the most imposing early season record in many a moon, with decisive victories over M.I.T., Wesleyan and Columbia.
