Grads Back Science Seminar

As part of an overall program attempting to provide "general education" for the graduate student, the Graduate Advisory Council is sponsoring a semi-monthly seminar on "Criteria of Validity in the Physical Sciences."

The seminar is one of three which the Council has developed through consultation with leading faculty authorities, and, from it, it hopes to determine the value of such a course for the graduate student. If the seminar is successful, the Council hopes it may eventually become part of the University's curriculum.

Lectures and subsequent discussions will be informal, and will attempt to give insight into the interplay of "observation, deduction, and imagination" in physical theories, and the relation between physical theory and the intellectual environment.

First meeting of the course, to be conducted by Philipp G. Frank, lecturer in Physics and Mathematics, with the assistance of Gerald J. Holton, instructor in Physics, will be April 6.
